Card Types Glossary — Prime, Captain, Cup, Limitbreaker
Every Build A Soccer Squad card type explained: Common, Rare, Special, Shiny, Prime, Captain, Premium Captain, Legend, Cup, Limitbreaker, Breakout, GB and SB.
Build A Soccer Squad throws a lot of borders and labels at you. This glossary is the map: what each card type is, how you get it, and whether it is worth a Reroll.

Captains vs Premium Captains vs Legends
All three can sit at 99 OVR. The difference is the checklist:
- Captain — finish that country’s 2026 roster. Captains guide.
- Premium Captain — finish a 2002 (or listed historic) roster. Often needs the 2002 pass or shop luck. Premium Captains.
- Legend — pack / pass / Day 7 token. Legends update.
2030 Future Stars nations are a separate pool. They help chemistry and Limitbreaker odds; they are not a third captain type. 2030 teams.
Limitbreaker vs Cup vs Prime
- Limitbreaker — breaks the printed cap. Console trio: Beckham, Maldini, Courtois. Console Limitbreakers.
- Cup — highest reliable earned OVR once you can win five cups.
- Prime — fastest bought spike; only buy when chemistry still holds.
If a Limitbreaker lands while you roll, stop and check the Odds menu so you do not bury it.
Special, shiny, and “blue” cards
Special / rainbow-border cards are keep-or-reroll by preview, not by color. Some creators refresh a team to chase a shiny of a card they already want — that is a flex loop, not a 93 OVR plan. Special cards, shiny cards.

What is the highest card type in Build A Soccer Squad?
Cup Players at 105+ OVR sit at the top of earned cards. Limitbreakers sit above the normal OVR ceiling and can outrank everything when they land in your pool.
Is a Captain better than a Prime?
Captains are 99 OVR and unlock a rollable variant for that nation. Primes are 100+ from the Hourly Shop. Prime wins raw rating; Captain wins long-term collection.
Are shiny cards stronger?
Shiny is a visual variant. Some refresh loops chase a shiny of a blue-border card you already like, but shine alone is not an OVR tier.
What are GB and SB cards?
Special high-tier variants added in the Limitbreaker cycle (for example GB Messi, SB Muller). Treat them as chase pieces for 100+ squads. See the GB & SB page.
