Build A Soccer Squad Position Tier List

Which positions to upgrade first in Build A Soccer Squad: GK, CB, CM, ST, wings, and fullbacks ranked by how fast they raise squad OVR in a 4-3-3.

Last updated:

This by-position tier list answers a different question than “who is the best card?” — it ranks which slots raise squad OVR fastest when you are building a default 4-3-3. Use it to decide where Hourly Shop Primes, Cup Players, and Rerolls should go first.

Ranking method

We score positions on three things:

  • OVR impact — how much a strong upgrade moves squad rating.
  • Chemistry spine value — how many neighbors that slot connects in 4-3-3.
  • Upgrade scarcity — how hard it is to find a natural, linked replacement.

Result: chase S slots before polishing B flanks, unless a missing fullback is the only thing breaking your league core.

Position priority tiers

TierPositionsWhy
SGK, CB (both)Biggest stable OVR anchors; CB pair links with each other, fullbacks, and GK
ACM, STMidfield hub + striker ceiling; CM touches LM/RM/ST chemistry
BLW, RW, LM, RMStrong attack OVR, but easier to flex with secondary positions
CLB, RBEssential for flank chains, usually smaller raw OVR spikes than spine/attack

S tier — GK and centre-backs

Upgrade these first.

  • A weak GK caps every eleven, even with glamorous attackers.
  • Dual CBs are the defensive chemistry spine of 4-3-3. Two linked centre-backs make league-core builds possible.
  • Spend Prime / Cup Player budget here before chasing another wing.

A tier — CM and ST

  • CM is the triangle hub (LM–CM–RM and links into ST). A high-OVR, on-league CM lifts both rating and structure.
  • ST is your primary attack ceiling. Prefer natural strikers over forced secondary ST unless chemistry demands it.

B tier — wings and wide mids

LW / RW / LM / RM deliver flashy OVR, and secondary positions often let one card cover two of these slots. That flexibility is why they sit below the spine: you can paper over gaps longer. Still upgrade them once GK/CB/CM/ST are respectable — Cup Players often shine here.

C tier — fullbacks

LB / RB rarely win the “highest OVR in pack” race, but they complete league and nation chains from defense to wing. Promote a fullback upgrade to A-priority if:

  • The slot is empty or off-league, and
  • Fixing it reconnects LW–LM–LB or RW–RM–RB.

How to spend an upgrade session

  1. List your eleven’s OVR by slot.
  2. Upgrade the lowest S-tier slot that can keep chemistry.
  3. If two S slots are fine, move to the worst A slot.
  4. Only then spend on B/C unless a flank break is killing links.
  5. Cross-check targets on best players and the main tier list.

Upgrade the spine first, protect the flank chains second, and your 4-3-3 climbs without constant rebuilds.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Which position should I upgrade first?

Prioritize GK, then CB, then CM. Those slots raise overall rating fastest and sit on the strongest chemistry spine of a default 4-3-3.

Are wings or fullbacks more important?

Wings (LW/RW) usually beat fullbacks for raw OVR spikes. Fullbacks matter more when you need to complete league/nation chains along the flanks.

Does this change for Cup Mode?

Slightly. Once you are Cup-ready at 93 OVR, keep upgrading the spine first, then plug Cup Players and Primes into the lowest remaining slots without breaking chemistry.

How does this relate to the players tier list?

The players tier list ranks card quality. This page ranks slot priority — chase S-tier cards in S-tier positions first for the fastest squad rating climb.
